Download Data for Separate and Unequal

From this page you can download the data presented in the Separate and Unequal web pages. You can download the full dataset, or you can choose a subset of that file.

There are missing values in this file. A value of -999 indicates that the variable is not applicable to the specific metropolitan area.

Download data for metropolitan areas

Option 1 - Download the full file
The full file contains information for all metropolitan areas for both 1990 and 2000.It contains values for the total metropolitan area, as well as its central city and suburban portions separately.This is a large file with hundreds of variables, and it is only available as an SPSS system file.

To download the complete data set and the variable descriptions as an SPSS system file, select the year. 1990, 2000.


Option 2 - Download a subset of the full file
You may now download subsets of the full data file and the variable descriptions using the form below. You may select the specific year, geographic area, and indices that you want. Because these are smaller files, they are provided as Excel spreadsheets. All spreadsheets include the neighborhood quality information for four racial/ethnic groups. Select "Income" to include also the data on each group's income distribution in the area, and the neighborhood characteristics for each group subdivided by categories of income. Select "Nativity" to include also the data on each group's nativity distribution in the area, and the neighborhood characteristics for each group subdivided by categories of nativity.

The full file contains information for specific cities of over 10,000 population for 1990 and 2000. This is a large file with hundreds of variables, and it is only available as an SPSS system file.

To download the complete data set and the variable descriptions as an SPSS system file, select the year. 1990, 2000.
